Sylvain Morey, a native of Chassagne Montrachet in Burgundy and a trained oenologist, settled in 1996 in the Luberon, where he then created the Domaine de LaBastide du Claux in 2002. This history allows him to combine a traditional Burgundian vision of viticulture with the innovative methods of the Luberon region.
Located in the heart of the Luberon Natural Park, the vineyard of Bastide du Claux is about 15 hectares divided into nine plots which offer a rich combination of soils, climates and exposures. Year after year research has led him to isolate certain qualitatively superior terroirs in order to create a range of wines which reflect the diversity of his vineyard and of this superb region. The wines are sun kissed and luscious, but always fresh and balanced.
Sylvain returned to his native Burgundy in 2014 and now shares his time between Luberon and Chassagne-Montrachet. The 4 hectares he inherited from his father, Jean-Marc Morey, are spread over various climates of Chassagne, St-Aubin and Santenay. From those vineyard sites, he cultivates expressive, vivacious and rich white wines as well as elegant reds; sapid and releasing beautiful aromatic expressions.
Whether in the South or in Burgundy, Sylvain's signature shines through in fresh, elegant and precise wines, well representative of their respective terroir.
